I¹m a big fan of dystopian future sci-fi.  Can¹t say I ever saw Mad Max
using his times tables.

Who is to say that the 21st century will continue to be an era of
technological wizardry which will obviate the need for 'traditional' skills,
such as handwriting?

  Are we aiming to produce a generation who are completely helpless in a
power cut (or worse)?
