Hi Anne,
"My son, mid 20's and a scientist has very recently
applied for a position where the company concerned
wanted a hand-written letter of application."
If that was my son I would want to know:
1. Why that was a requirement (under Disability
Discrimination law I suspect they cannot do that
unless they can give a gooid reason to)
2. How much writing was involved in the job - if none
then that was an unreasonable request (under
Disability Discrimination law I suspect too)
3. How accommodating they would be to his inability to
do that regularly in-post
4. Whether he shoulds be applying for a job with that
sort of requirement.
People with disabilities have to realise that they
need to choose jobs that are suited to their
abilities, avoid if they can those that require things
they find mist difficult - also employers must make
reasonable accomodations for their disabilities under
DD law. That is also a fact of life in the 21st
vcebtury.
Best wishes,
Aly
