Colin, Have you seen this book? Is it good? Mapping SEN: Routes Through Identification to Intervention by Amanda Kirby Philippa Bodien Hi Philippa, Yes I have seen it, and it's proving quite popular. Mapping SEN is a book and a CD package. It provides an analysis tool for mapping individual needs on CD; a series of record and assessment sheets; and a set of follow up strategies. The CD runs in either Windows or MAC OS so should be useable in all schools. The first chapter is a set of instructions on how to use the software program to get you started. It looks a bit like a flow chart on screen and you click on boxes to go further on a particular subject. So it's quite easy to use. There is a description of the range of Specific Learning Difficulties that may present in a classroom with detailed tables on Dyslexia; Dyscalculia; ADHD; DCD (Dyspraxia); and Asperger. Dr Kirby then sets out what are "reasonable adjustments" in a bullet point format for general classroom issues, followed by specific tables for auditory impairment; visual impairment; social and communication difficulties; co-ordination difficulties; pupils with poor understanding of time; poor co-ordination skills; reading and writing difficulties; underdeveloped life skills; and those who struggle to cope in a classroom setting. The follow-up strategy sheets are divided into 5 categories: Writing skills; time management; maths and number; social interaction and communication skills; balance and co-ordination skills. The book is 64 pages A4 in total, some of which are photocopiable. Cost £20.00. I have more stock than Amazon and will happily supply on the same terms to any member contacting me off forum. Just leave me a message with your full school address and it will be supplied under invoice. If you want a personal copy, then please phone on Monday with card details. Please note we are at Olympia for the TES Education Show on Friday and Saturday (set-up is tomorrow, Thursday) so if you want to see a copy do pop along to Stand E13. (I don't expect Philippa to fly in from UAE but who knows.) Yours Colin SEN Marketing |
