Why go that far (subject specific spellings). How many students cannot spell the days of the week or the months of the year or write their own address? All of these (unrealistically) used to be NLS Year 1 requirements. Each year teachers are swept along in a tide of things that have to be done, be it Y1 or Y4 etc., and many students are not grasping basic skills. There is no time in the curriculum to check that all is in place, nor to catch up if all is not well. Can't wait to see how the new 'learn at your own pace' and ' take tests when you are ready' regime will work. While apparently SEN friendly and very touchy feely I fear it will leave many learners adrift without recourse to specialist help with the lovely excuse that 'they will get there in their own time'. Will the school leaving age be extended for those who have not mastered enough skills for life within the usual 11 year time frame? Sharon No virus found in this outgoing message.
