'Many LEA's offer services (such as a Dyslexia or additional SEN service or behaviour service for that fact) for free.' Mags - I'm very tempted to ask you to name these LAs. And then refine the list for those which continue these free services after Year 6. Finally, carry out a straw poll of schools in those LAs to ask whether there is a sufficiency, and if not, how great is the insufficiency. 'Services often have more time to spend with the child and teachers are happier with them as they work with the children so seem to be more practice based.' Not where I live! But perhaps I just live somewhere not very good. I may be jumping the gun here but where are your services and why are they not involved first? Many LEA's offer services (such as a Dyslexia or additional SEN service or behaviour service for that fact) for free. Services often have more time to spend with the child and teachers are happier with them as they work with the children so seem to be more practice based. EP's like services because they can use their notes to double check their observations and outcomes of tests etc. Being Head of a Behaviour service, we liaise closely with parents, teachers and EP's to get the best outcome for the child and the class they are in. We haven't got it right but I do feel, after 3 years of multi-agency working, including some work with CAMHs, we are slowly getting there. If your services aren't free then get your Headteacher to ask why not? If they are, then get your child's name up there and push until they're seen.
