Article: [senco-forum] Draft Regulations for SENCos - consultation

Dear Colleagues,

On March 25th, Christopher Robertson sent the message below about the
Government's proposals for regulations about SENCos. I've been surprised
not to see any comments about these on the Forum.

Having just read the draft regulations on the website which Christopher
mentions, it seems to me certain that Forum members will have opinions on
the draft Regs and will wish to respond to the Department for Children,
Schools and Families on the e-form provided. For example, although the DCSF
say that originally they wanted to be explicit that SENCos should be on
their schools' SMT, further consultation made them modify this to ensuring
that there was at least an 'SEN champion' on the SMT! Furthermore, the
draft Regs assume that there is a governor who actually monitors that SENCos
are able to do their job.

Klaus Wedell, Chair, Forum Adv Grp.
