Article: [senco-forum] SENCos not on SLT

I have recently written in reply to this consultation document and have
said that I thought the idea of a 'champion' was vaguely patronising. I
felt a subject specialist would not be termed a champion ie a Head of
Maths as a champion of Maths (if you see my meaning) I stated that the
original DCSF suggestions were still valid. It was unclear as to why
they were advised that it wouldn't be a good idea and that SENCOs have
the details and the up to date knowledge that a 'champion' wouldn't
have.

Subject: [senco-forum] SENCos not on SLT

Consultation on Draft Education (Special Educational Needs
Co-ordinators)
(England) Regulations 2008

I was very surprised to see there were not more emails about these
regulations. Klaus Wedell brought it to our attention a few days ago.

Are SENCos generally happy that it is no longer thought necessary for
them
to be on the SLT. Is the feeling that a 'champion' will be sufficient?

Kate
