I am sure we could work 'thought' or 'brought'
or 'bought' or 'ought' into that somewhere.
We will not bother with Irish 'loughs' /lochs/
or snakes which slough /sluff/ off their skins.

I would just plead for spellings not to be termed
'correct' or 'wrong' but 'most commonly used'.

He self-corrects 'mis-spelt' to 'mis-spelled'.
My Readers Digest dictionary of 1989 has both
'mis-spelt' and 'mis-spelled'.
Neither are in my 2001 Chambers dictionary
'misspelt' and 'misspelled' are both there.

So 'mis-spelled' is most commonly used up to now,
but it is not the only spelling used enuf
to be put in dictionaries.

What is in more recent dictionaries?
Hyfens are disappearing, so it is probably still
'misspelled' as in mine. I prefer hyfenated words
and shall continue to use them

If enuf people write 'mispelt' that would get
into dictionaries. Only 82,800 so far.
'alright' was not 'correct' when I was young.
It is in dictionaries now.
