Article: [senco-forum] Diamond Nine Activity- for children

re Sarah’s query:

This sounds similar to Clare O’Kane’s [later] ‘diamond ranking’ activity- used to explore children’s views. See

O’Kane C. (2000) The development of participatory techniques: facilitating children’s views about decisions which affect them pp 136-159 in P. Christensen, P. and A. James (eds) (2000) Research with Children: Perspectives and Practices London: Falmer

for a very accessible chapter about her approach.

We adapted this method for our ‘diamond ranking’ activities in exploring the views of diverse pupils with SEN or disablities.

For info – I can let you /others have more refs re that work if you wish [the Disability Rights Commission funded the work and our Phase 1 report [accessible via the Equality and Human Rights Commission website*] has more info about a range of methods we used to access the views of pupils with SEN or disabilities].
