With the General Teaching Council for Wales, as in NI, the fee is paid frm your salary one month and then repaid to your salary the next month. There is also financial encouragement for CPD, with individual bursaries of £600+; network and group bursaries and research project funding of several thousand pounds. The administrators of this funding are very helpful and will contact you with suggestions to ensure that your application meets the criteria for the award.
