Article: [senco-forum] [SENco-forum] Speech and language difficultiesand exclusions

Hi Sharon

We are talking about a communication problem that exists for a great many
children and even adults, and the frustration of not being understood, or
understanding what others are trying to communicate is a real problem.
The real problem from the individuals perspective is that others, the so
called majority are not able to understand or access their natural
communication needs.

As some one who has Auditory Processing Disorder I face this deep
frustration every day. Eventually you have to express this deep frustration,
and usually the deep frustration and anger created the ignorant majority has
can only be safely let out with those who you believe will understand you
problems, which is totally unfair on them. Some members of this forum can
cause this deep frustration when they promote their narrow minded approach
to teaching and to learning while failing to recognise the needs of others.

Best wishes

dolfrog

What sort of S&L?

I have seen a lot of 'behavioural' problems that are really frustrated
students with dyslexia.

Hello Luisa --

I'd be grateful for the reference for this if you can find it.

I'm aware of a small-scale study of primary age pupils in a PRU, nearly
all of whom when tested turned out to have S&L difficulties (Heneker, S.
(2005) British Journal for Special Education vol. 32(2), pp. 86-91). I
think they were previously thought to have behaviour difficulties.

Chris
