I've found a "Webber phone" at LDA that seems to be it, though perhaps less
sophisticated than what you describe.

It used to be known as TOKBAK and fed the air voice direct to the ear so 
that the talker could hear their own air or public voice (usually you only 
hear your bone or private voice, it is the rest of us who have to live with 
your air voice) you can also do it with a Coomber 3902 but you would need to

learn how to do it.  A similar object is used in singing training.  Try 
hearphones.com (could be hearfones).

The method using the Coomer is described in MacLeod et al 2007, School 
Psychology International 28, 5, 555-573.  try sagepub.com for an abstract.
