Or for the cash strapped, and with the proviso that you might end up looking
like Prince Charles, try cupping both ears and saying cat and sounding
c-a-t. It is very clear.

Can use just the one hand when the other is busy writing down whatever you
are spelling aloud. Encourages that self voice feedback that some need to
access text/spelling initially and why taping what a child is reading and
then letting them hear it is also instructive.
