Article: [senco-forum] Judged after one year - normal?

I have been in post for nearly six years and feel that I am still learning the job. Something new comes up all the time - that's the nature of the job we do. I only teach small intervention groups, but still see students for 24 out of 26 lessons per week. I'm not complaining about this as I set my own timetable, but there are only certain lessons that I can withdraw students from so it does fill up spaces on my timetable quite quickly. I have a supportive SLT - fortunately!
I would suggest that you contact your union for advice, but also log everything you do so that you have concrete evidence with which to argue your case.

Subject: [senco-forum] Judged after one year - normal?

Hi,

I have been in post (SENCo) for one year. The head and assistant head consider that was enough time for me to learn the job, which was new to me. After working all the hours god sends for these disadvantaged/low attaining children, (not complaining - I enjoy doing it!) this is not enough for the head and assistant head. They want me out. I teach 18 hours a week - they have given me 3 hours a week to do the job (they are adamant that is enough time) - I do have an admin assistant, 850 on role - 84 on SEN register.

So, the question is: is one year the normal length of time for judging?
