[senco-forum] Dealing with Disappointment

Hi,
I have lived for the last 29 years with a life-long Tottenham supporter: I am superbly qualified to offer solace and comfort to the disappointed & disgruntled.
Here are a few suggestions:
1) Whatever you do, never say 'it's only an exam/a game/a boy/a girl' . It is, for you, but for them it was life or death.
2)Don't try to jolly them along. They're entitled to grieve and be miserable for a while, whether they are 11 or 58.
3) When they emerge from their misery, discreetly engineer a fun activity, something that gives them a chance to feel good about themselves and the world.
4) If they want to talk about it, don't talk. Just listen.And listen good.

Yes disappointment is part of life, and character building and all that but it still hurts (ask any Spurs supporter...)
