Article: [senco-forum] corrective reading programme

We use it and have done for years. It is well worth it and we have seen
some fantastic gains for pupils between the reading ages of 6.5 and 9.0.
Level C goes higher than that but we don't actually use this. We use it
for Y7 and 8 and we go to feeder primaries to screen those with reading
difficulties so we know who we have in our different groups for
September.
One pupil this year has gone from 6.8-8.5 since Sept.
It does have some down sides such as Americanisms, the odd naf story and
it is not the most exciting thing in the world but it is effective!
It needs to be done exactly as it is written too. Don't try and take
things from one lesson and another from a different one as that makes it
ineffective.
Need to know anything else let me know.

Hi

Do any of you have experience of the Corrective Reading Programme
published
by SRA (?) aimed at raisnig literacy levels of 11-14 year olds whose
reading
age is at least a year below their chronological age.My secondary school
is
considering investing in this for a number of identified pupils from
years
7-9. Any comments most welcome.

Fiona
