| Article: [senco-forum] criteria for SpLD tuition from LA | |
|
Hello Kate Cornwall is one of the places in England where there is a good investment in SpLD through the 'Xtraordinary People: No to Failure Project. We have also been running the 'Dyslexia Friendly School' project for many years now. However, we never had any SpLD teachers funded by a central source. We used to have pupils with Statements who were given some funding labled 'teaching' but we had to find the teachers ourselves - and this is not easy to do in a small isolated rural area if you are only offering one hour a week! So, my answer is that I don't know of any criteria for inervention in my LA. I'd be very interested if these exist elsewhere. I was wondering if anyone could share the criteria (if any) used by their authority. Currently pupils scoring below the 5th centile in any of the assessments used receives tuition, but this is not necessarily resulting in tuition being delivered to the most appropriate pupils. As with all resources there is a limited amount of time available so criteria is needed to ensure that pupils receive an injection of support rather than long term extended intervention so that others may benefit in the future. Do LEAs have the same criteria for Primary and Secondary pupils? Thanks Kate Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
