|
I'm moving to Wales! I had a 93/141 child with 135 IQ and still could not get any SpLD support due to them not fulfilling the LEA criteria i.e. had scored KS1 Level 2. By Year 6 we had a 10 year old with a reading and spelling age of 7. Due to money constraints our criteria seems to be aimed at only getting kids to KS Level 2/3 before Secondary school. A tribunal soon sorted it out but it should never have been necessary. The criteria we use is; a discrepancy of twenty points between verbal and non verbal standardised scores. The child must also be within the average intelligence band. The criteria is not set in stone, it will depend on individual children's needs. e.g when a child has other difficulties such as ASD or emotional difficulties etc. The amount of support also varies depending on the child's needs. I've had a child receive specialist tuition from me 4 hours a week and another one hour a week. This does not include any support (e.g. in class) a child receive from a TA.
