Hi Janice I don't understand either. The section says 'such as' which suggests that it should include others. However, it then specifies 'a physical disability or a medical condition or sensory impairment' so I don't see how an EP fits into this either. This applies to Key Stage 3 tests as well as the Key Stage 2 ones. I think we are supposed to use Section A criteria for pupils with learning difficulties and Section B for physical and sensory problems. Personally, I almost never apply for extra time at Key Stage 3. I do use readers and scribes when pupils are used to it as we don't have to ask for permission as long as they don't have extra time. This is more use in indicating what access arrangements pupils need for GCSE. Now - when SATs become optional / taken 'as appropriate' we can all relax again and get on with teaching not testing. However the NAA (the body we have to apply to for extra time for KS2 SATS) does not accept this as a recommendation for extra time - it has to come from an EP. So what then is the point of me spending hours assessing for dyslexia and writing reports???? Janice Rolnick SENCO/AST Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
