We have now got outside invigilators in for exams -
Hence, frees  up Support Staff for Readers/Scribes -
And then if need be ... volunteers ...
And then if need be ... exam officer 'recruits' departmental colleagues!

How about asking at your local college/uni for readers etc?

I am doing a Foundation Degree in Learner support & it would be good to
make
a module that includes exam access arrangements and having to give this
kind
of practical help as part of the package.

 Free staff for you and 15/30 credits towards my degree.

For example there are 2 x 15 credit modules entitled Supporting Literacy
and
Supporting Numeracy that requires 8 hours 1:1 support, an essay and
piece on
self evaluation.  This could easily incorporate what you want - someone
familiar & who is also there at exam time.

The only other option is appealing for retired professionals from any
walk
of life to sign up for this type of exam support or a voluntary basis.
This
more clerical & professional support role may appeal to those who are
not so
interested in interacting on a more personal level such as those who
volunteer to listen to children read.
