Thanks for replying, Mark. The thing is - I have to work with what we have got. We don't have the money to run alternatives to the mainstream provision. I know 'one size doesn't fit all' but one size is all I have! We run xp, not vista, and we don't use apples macs. This is the problem with schools having a ones size fits all solution to ICT, ie: its windows or nothing. Windows simply isn't suited to the needs of all students (or teachers). XP will read your text for you but not as clearly as a Mac (especially one using the 'Alex' voice in OS X Leopard). XP might also have problems with pdfs where a Mac won't. My advice to all SENCos is that ideally your students (_especially_ those with dyslexia) should have access to more than one type of operating system OS X Leopard (Macs only), Windows XP (Macs and PCs) and possibly even Linux (Macs and PCs). That way they can use the system that best suits them. Hope this helps.
