Dear Luisa,
I'm not a PE teacher but wondered if it's a coordination/dyspraxic type difficulty whether any of the exercises which Madeleine Portwood describes in her rather wonderful and accessible book 'Developmental Dyspraxia' might be of benefit to your pupil?
I've used them with a 9yr old very dyspraxic girl - 10 mins each day - with very noticeable improvements - we did them for the best part of 2 terms as I recall, so quite a long term project.
Just a thought.

A year 9 pupil, very nice but extremely shy, came to see me about 'a problem in PE'. She is not very good at games, because her coordination is poor, so she is not very good at catching. She is also very scared of being hit by the ball. It seems that she is desperate to get a level 4 in PE, but she finds it very difficult. Her PE teacher told her to practise catching, but the girl feels that she is getting nowehere.
She is quite good academically but at the moment, she would willingly give some of her good grades in English, Science and Maths in exchange to be able to catch/pass a ball.
(If you are not very good at sports, you are often seen by your peers as an sub-standard human specimen).
I am sure that practice helps, but you need some guidelines, like with everything else.
If there are any PE teachers listening out there, please let's hear your suggestions/ comments!
thanks
Luisa
