Hi Sharon, The test ceiling is 12:11 I assume that like most tests you wouldn't repeat within 6 months, but because it is 6 parallel tests you can re-test at any time up tp a maximum of 5 I use it in secondary because of that fact. For older students I use the age equivalent. There is also the option to stop at one point (think it's 44 spellings) without continuing to 50. The only problem is that you must ask all the 44 spellings, unlike other tests where you would stop after so many errors. So it can be a little demotivating for some very weak students. It's also in 2 parts for youn ger primary kids (can't remember the ages though). Hope that's helpful, Laurie -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Sharon Fawcitt Sent: 05 January 2008 10:32 To: 'senco forum' Subject: [senco-forum] Young's Parallel spelling test Could someone out there who uses this test give me some information? 1. Is the test ceiling age 12:11? 2. How often can it be administered? 3. What are its advantages/disadvantages compared to the Vernon in a secondary school environment? Many Thanks Sharon F |
