Article: [senco-forum] Young's Parallel spelling test [Scanned]

I have used this as a whole school screening in year 7 as all the classes can use a differnt version and the children not tell each other the words. The new Assistant Head in charge of Assessment won't do the test in Sept of each year any longer as he wants to do an on-line version. So I have used it with those I know who have poor spellings to get my start of year base lines. he will do the Suffolk reading test, but this seems to tkae forever to get the results back!

At the end of each year I hve re-tested yr 7 and 8. As some are over 12.11 I have a grid that extends approximately for SAS.

I am now moving to the Vernon as it can be used throughout the school, although in my mind I might have Yr 7 and 8 set alongside yr 9+ tests as I use Neale Reading, but hae to convert to GORT at a later stage

Susie

Could someone out there who uses this test give me some information?

1. Is the test ceiling age 12:11?

2. How often can it be administered?
3. What are its advantages/disadvantages compared to the Vernon in a
secondary school environment?

Many Thanks

Sharon F
