I do not know your focus but try the DFES publication  "The effective 
managment of Teaching Assisstants to improve standards in literacy and 
Mathematics" DFES - 1447 -2005 available link on line at teachernet 
publications. Also the Induction pack for Teaching Assistants which outlines 
their role and may make teachers think.
