In a message dated 14/01/2008 18:31:39 GMT Standard Time, mary.kelly4 at ntlworld.com writes: Did you know that entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be dyslexic as the rest of the population? Except in the US, where the figure is three-and-a-half times? But we know the americans can't spell. Interesting to hear about all of those who have had the SEN label stamped on their forehead and go on to find their niche in life - much of it ranging from comfortable to lucrative, but not academic. What does this say about our rigid education system which is so set up as to not allow those working with children to recognise and work with their strengths. This hoop, that hoop; measure this, measure that. And I think that the contribution to society has less to do with SEN and more to do with expectation, self esteem and just how comfortable a place you start from. And Ruth - can you mind your language please. Martin |
