Article: [senco-forum] What do you for transition from 6/7 ??

Ha! most of our children seem to have brothers, sisters, step brothers & sisters, aunties, uncles, nieces or nephews at our school (or their mum, or dad, or both attended not so long ago...) so they seem to pretty well know what to expect...

But seriously: we have a Y5 'week' for pupils from our feeder primaries, a 4 day 'induction' week for Y6 in the Summer term before they start, the primary schools are visited in the latter part of the Summer term to talk to Y6 teachers and get some background on the children (this can be a two edged sword, but on the whole, it's quite useful, children are allocated to forms on the basis of 'friendship' groupings, or warnings about 'children to keep apart') and during the first week of term the Y7 classes have a TA or Learning Mentor 'attached' to them to help them find their way around the school, give support and get to know the children who will need support. (The efficacy of this depends on the expertise & interest of the TA.) We also now have a 'Transition Worker'.
