Article: [senco-forum] What do you for transition from 6/7 ??

We have Year 4 days, Year 5 days, Year 6 days when they come in for two or three lessons, which are usually practical ones but sometimes French or Maths, and have break with food provided or break and lunch. Year 10 or 11 prefects are on hand in each class to help.

Visits into feeder schools from a number of teachers from Year 4 onwards.

We host the Infant and Junior area Music Festivals as we have the right size hall, stage and grand piano.

We host District Sports at times.

Year 10 and 11 GCSE/Btec drama students take mini performances in to the primary schools.

We have Transition Mentors employed by the secondary school in about 8 of our feeder schools who work across the phases.

We have quite a number of Gypsy and Traveller pupils so we have a Gypsy teaching assistant (an ex pupil) who spends 4 and a half days with us and 1/2 day in the primary with the most Gypsy pupils. She is also available for KS1 and 2 trips out if needed.

Then all the usual extra visits etc for pupils with SEN.

Barbara

I was wondering what other schools do to help Year 6 pupils transition to secondary school - not SEN kids, just anyone ?
Many thanks
Janice
