Hi Janice We have two learning mentors who pick students from year 7 and year 10 (shows different uniforms as we change when they enter KS4) . they try to get the year 7s to be from the primary they attended. We have made a DVD which is shown to teh year 6 group and the students they take down have things like homework planners ,housepoint and rewards system plus sanctions and behaviour policy, bus passes and what to do if you lose it,canteen procedure, extra curricular activities and also a short Q & A . Only visit the 11 feeders but an invite goes out to students who are coming from non feeder to attend one of two sessions we run in school . For SEN kids with statement or high anxiety I invite them to spend a morning with us - putting them into some classes with one of my TA's and that way they experience the madhouse thatis canteen at morning break. . I try to do this before the mentors go out and before the induction day that way they can go back to primary and tell the other kids all about it . Gets them lots of brownie points .
