Article: [senco-forum] Year 10 boy

I have assessed the son of a friend for literacy problems as she wants some updated numbers for the school. At 14.6.yrs he is older than my usual pupils.
he achieved NV IQ 87
Expr lang 11.6.yrs
ASM 72 IQ (4 forward, 2 back)
VSM 6 itens good
AD good though he could not recall the 2 words long enough to decide on 5 pairs
VD good but he took a very long time to decide.
Reading on 2 untimed tests 10.0 yrs
on 2 timed teats DI speed read 8.10 yrs and Kirklees 8.6.yrs.
Spelling regular test 10.0 yrs
Irregular test 7.2.years. Most errors were vowels and no spelling rules.

I think the boy's SpLD problems are very slow auditory processing and limited working memory capacity. He is stressed about homework and revision and exams etc,
Working under time pressure is obviously torture for him. I think it is too late to start a detailed DI type read.spell package for him and would think that study skills revision techniques, exam survival strategy given in school by a study mentor would be a better bet. Would this boy qualify for extra time support etc? What would you KS3/4 SENCO's do to best support in his last 18 months of school?
I am doing this as a favour and want to give the best possible advice to Mum. Please can you help me?
