No dolfrog, your problem is that you don't agree with the model of reading or hierarchy of necessary skills that psychological  & cognitive research has determined over the past few decades.  That this does not suit your particular problem, we know, but the fact remains that reading is an entirely artificial, man made construct and that it was constructed in a way that the greater part of the humanity is able to access it.  If it hadn't been ,then it would have died out pretty quickly.

What are you expecting research to turn up to inform your ideal 'model of reading'?  That it's all really done by smell, or touch?
