Has anybody else experienced the phenomenon of EAL 6th formers coming out of the woodwork as exams approach with requests for extra time? This has happened at my school even though I took pains to canvas 6th formers about exam support last September and was given to understand that they would all be fine. Hitherto they have not needed extra time in tests. I understand that EAL students who habitually use a bilingual dictionary are allowed up to 25% extra time in exams. Before they knew that extra time was tied to the use of dictionaries, they confessed that they used them very little. What do other people do in these circumstances? Thanks Frank Bruce Norfolk |
