[senco-forum] speech and Language programme

I think you have highlighted a real problem.  Secondary pupils needs speech and language support just as much a primary pupils - problems which persist into secondary school age are serious ones.  But it is very diffiucult to get support from Speech and Language Therapists for secondary age pupils because there is not enough SALT time to do it.
  I work with some fantastic Therapists, and have learned a lot from them, but I am told they are only able to give advice about secondary age pupils.  This leaves us with trying to deliver a programme of support or trying to work out a programme for ourselves.

The reason why I need to start this programme is because we have a number of kids in year 7 with receptive and expressive language difficulties and I can't get a speech therapist to come and help us for love or money- they are like gold dust round here. Every now and again we manage to get someone in to do an assessment but it they don't follow it up. To be fair, it is not their fault; there just aren't enough of them. 

We have a girl at the moment, who has a Speech and Language disorder. This affects her behaviour (and it is getting worse). I am working with the Head of Year and her carer and she really needs regular , 1-1 support. I am going to order the books.
