[senco-forum] Dyslexia and general learning needs

I work with a large number of dyslexic students of all abilities.

Hi,
let me get this straight-I am not an expert on dyslexia; I have learned
a lot by reading your messages, but I have never joined in discussions -
I have always believed that you need to know enough about a subject
before you open your mouth.
But I have a query...
I used to work with a colleague, who maintained that only 'clever'
people could be dyslexic. According to him, pupils who had difficulties
across the curriculum, simply  could not be dyslexic. Their lack of
progress in reading and spelling was just part of their general
cognitive difficulties.
I have spoken to people recently, who told me this is not true.
I'd love to hear your views on this.
