I would say that GLD is working in line with a below average IQ and SpLD is
not working in line with IQ at all.

Some children with GLD that is usually supported with 'more of the same'
practice also have SpLD that is overlooked & unsupported-hence disparity in
what they should be achieving and what they are actually achieving.

If all 3 - GLD, GLD/SpLD & SpLD -were supported with dyslexia friendly
teaching then all might succeed in learning, but sadly many with SpLD
dyslexia as well as SpLD /GLD have the old 'more of the same' that will not
work.

Hopefully newer small step assessment and monitoring for all will bring
about change when lack of progress with be easier to see and support changed
to suit.

Hi,
let me get this straight-I am not an expert on dyslexia; I have learned a
lot by reading your messages, but I have never joined in discussions - I
have always believed that you need to know enough about a subject before you
open your mouth.
But I have a query...
I used to work with a colleague, who maintained that only 'clever' people
could be dyslexic. According to him, pupils who had difficulties across the
curriculum, simply could not be dyslexic. Their lack of progress in reading
and spelling was just part of their general cognitive difficulties.
I have spoken to people recently, who told me this is not true.
I'd love to hear your views on this.

Luisa
