Article: [senco-forum] [SENco-forum] what works best when children are failing? Dyslexia/Math

My son is described as having mild dyslexia with very little reference in
the EP report with regard to math- scores being about average.

He is Verbal 130/NV 134 but only average in any math test to date. In an
area where 25% of the best children go to grammar school he attends the
local secondary school where he struggles to stay in the middle math group -
those with IQ's around the 50-70% level at a guess.

He cannot do times tables and mental math can reduce him to tears. He cannot
estimate, has difficulties remembering how to do sums, which method is
which, or how to disentangle the math from ridiculously long story type
questions. He just has no feel for the numbers in the same way as my
daughter with dyslexia has no feel for spelling.

He excels at all sciences and design technology but his math is going to let
him down.

Not sure if he has dyslexia in math or dyscalculia or knowing my luck ( and
his) a touch of both!
