it is the teaching of the estimation that is difficult. If numbers have no feel or sense of size then 100, 1000 or 10000 could still be the right answer. He knows how to use a calculator and has to trust that the answer is right even though he might have pressed the wrong buttons. the problem is the lack of recognition at school that he has a problem. The original question posted by Phillipa was to ask if there is a problem with high non- verbal scorers doing poorly in math and the answer is yes - but like dyslexia in English none of his maths teachers seem to know what to do!
