Article: [senco-forum] parents rights to information

Hi Kate
I don't think that the parents have the 'right' to know the qualifications of staff who work with their statemented child, at least in a legal sense.
I do think that they should be told if they ask. Teachers are expected to have teaching qualifications.
I think the qualifications of teaching assistants are more of a problem. Most of my Team have no formal TA qualifications but you would not find a more experienced and professional group of TAs anywhere. Some of them came into the Team with no qualifications whatsoever, having left school with none years ago - and they are some of my most useful people. We do a great deal of 'in house' training about the particular needs of the pupils we work with but with no opportunity for formal accreditation.
Does anyone know of an accreditation for TAs which is affordable. I'd love to run it for my whole Team but last time we looked into it, it would have cost us far too much to be able to do it.
