In your professional capacity you may find it useful to take advantage of any CAMHS training available. I recently attended a day's training 'Children's mental health' which included a 'taster' on 'Attachment', followed the next week by 'Death, dying and bereavement' in the morning and 'Depression' in the afternoon, (a very emotional, but worthwhile day!). All sessions gave great insight into possible reasons for the behaviour of some of 'my' children - and possible changes in my practise which may make it just a bit easier for them to learn. (I think 'Attachment' and 'D,D and B' most useful if your choices are limited) What came across from all the young people involved in the making of films shown, and from personal experience, is that they want someone to listen to them, someone to talk with (not at) them and give fair/honest answers to questions, however trivial the question may seem or unpleasant the answer may be. Sometimes too - what we percieve as a problem is not a problem for the young people but for us as observer/parent/teacher etc. Lots of information is available on the net if you google 'child mental health', but be advised that some sites are less reliable than others. It was suggested that we look at www.youngminds.org.uk and www.rcpsych.ac.uk Enjoy the holiday - June (peripatetic specialist teacher and ex school counsellor) _________________________________________________________________ Amazing prizes every hour with Live Search Big Snap http://www.bigsnapsearch.com |
