Hi Luisa This is a thorny issue especially in the USA where APD was first recognised. The optimum APD assessment should be carried out by a multi-discipline team consisting, and audiologist to carry out the diagnosis and an an educational psychologist and a Speech and Language therapist to help with the support and related issues. In the UK the first APD clinic was run by Dilys Treharne at Sheffield University sponsored by the NHS in the early years f this decade. The MRC then won government funding for their current 5 year roll on APD research program, which at this point in time, is cause much confusion. There are technically 24 Centres interested in diagnosing APD, and trialling the new APD diagnostic test, but they are very unwilling to actually provide a full diagnosis of APD. In the last month I have been in contact will all of the new Hospitals on the new MRC list, and only two of the 24 are willing to provide a full diagnosis of APD, at this point in time as they sort out the ethics of APD diagnosis. Most who are referred to a hospital for an APD assessment want a full diagnosis of APD and not play these theoretical diagnostic games. Hopefully Doris, who has a much broader experience of diagnosing APD, mainly for adults, will add a more consumer oriented approach to the way this program is carried out.
