Article: [senco-forum] BSL interpreters for parents

Dear All
We have a child in year 1 with hearing-impaired parents.  Although her mother can lip-read well and manage in a one-to-one parents evening type situation, she has asked if we can supply an interpreter for larger meetings.
I have been trying to find some sort of guidance about who pays for this, but have had little joy from local authority.  The situation would be different if the child was hearing-impaired - we could then access a local service.  it seems it is quite unusual for a child to have 2 hearing impaired parents.
Part of the problem is that going through a private agency we have to pay for an entire session - £150, when we may need just 20 minutes.  Under disability discrimination legislation, is that a "reasonable" amount for a small primary to pay?  My head thinks not.
Any wise words would be much appreciated - want to progress on this issue which has been lurking for a while.
Thank you
Anusia
