What I meant was we did what you did-we put them all in one room and trained them to work with the reader /scribe!! Sorry I did not make myself clear-like everybody else, we don't have any extra space and it is a struggle to find rooms. We did not even have the same room for all the exams-had to go from one room to another-a real pain!!! I struggle so much for people and rooms - I'd love to have on pupil per room but we don't have 20 available rooms, let alone two people per candidate to support them. I'm just jealous that you can find 10 spare rooms and twenty people! We have twenty-two pupils who need readers and / or scribes in our current year 10. We can't find enough people to do the read / scirbe part, let alone another twenty-two people to invigilate. And we couldn't find enough rooms. What we do is to train our pupils to work in classrooms with readers / scribes plus one invigilator. We don't have screens because we haven't got any to use. When we get up to about 12 in a room, we have two rooms. Amanda Secondary SENCO CornwallGaynor Dunkley <gadunkley at hotmail.co.uk> wrote: Luisa No you are not being fussy . Get her doctor to write a letter saying it would be detrimental to her health etc . It may also help if you can come up with a room (or cupboard where she can sit - it often makes the exams officer a bit more amenable if you can offer a possible solution I have a couple of kids who have CFS and may need rest breaks for the longer exams - they cant be accommodated elsewhere because of space issues but sit at the back near the door and invigilators know that they are there and have stop the clock allowance. I have also had a student in year 9 last week who is being seen by CAMHS (mental health issues ) who on the friday before SATs week locked herself in toilets and threatened overdose through the stress of impending tests . We got her out and assured her that she need not take them - I got on the phone to her key worker who dropped a letter in by hand before school finished to say that it would be detrimental for her to sit ,she will be entered as unable to sit tests. I am increasingly finding that I am having to do battle to get what the students are entitled to ie one per room if reader - SATs last week I had 2 in one room and TAs said it was a nightmare even although we had put screens up. She does not qualify for reader/ scribe, only extra time. As we are a small school and space is at a premium , the examination officer suggested that she does her GCSEs in the gym with the others. I am not happy with this (neither is the parent). Am I being fussy? And is it necessary to fill in extra forms and stuff for someone who has diabetes? > > Luisa> > From: gadunkley at hotmail.co.uk> To: jwwray14 at hotmail.com; senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> Date: Sat, 10 May 2008 14:28:59 +0000> Subject: Re: [senco-forum] Do you use the gym for exams ?> > > Janice > > Sorry to hear about your tumble hope you are not to sore today . The very high windows have no blinds and let in very little air - it has been known for students to pass out in the heat and once one of the invigilators collapsed. We now have a supply of cold water outside just in case students doing longer papers begin to flag. > > Take care > > > Gaynor> > > > From: jwwray14 at hotmail.com> > To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> > Date: Fri, 9 May 2008 20:51:24 +0000> > Subject: [senco-forum] Do you use the gym for exams ?> > > > I was wondering - I fell flat on my face yesterday - in front of 130 SATS students and 4 teachers - in the gym because I tripped over the plastic sheeting they put on to protect the gym surface.> > Battered and bruised at home today - horrid.
