Hi All I can across this a link to this article How the Brain Learns to Read Can Depend on the Language http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB120965705088459637-aPDnoL5pFVFpZJuLNh 53Azj2X8Y_20080601.html?mod=tff_main_tff_top or http://tinyurl.com/6c4gax best wishes dolfrog -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Barbara Blaney Sent: 11 May 2008 17:39 To: Luisa Pinnell; senco forum Subject: Re: [senco-forum] Do you use the gym for exams ? Hope Janice is recovering wel. In answer to Luisa, we take pupils with various difficulties including unstable diabetes and epilepsy into small rooms or even offices to keep an eye on them without any extra paperwork - though obviously there is a need for invigilators. For diabetics I have never done any extra paperwork. barbara -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk on behalf of Luisa Pinnell Sent: Sat 5/10/2008 5:05 PM To: senco forum Subject: Re: [senco-forum] Do you use the gym for exams ? Hope you are feeling better Janice,I will ask the caretaker what they use in our gym on Monday. Talking about heat and poorly ventilated gyms, I have a pupil who has a statement of SEN and she is also diabetic. She does not qualify for reader/ scribe, only extra time. As we are a small school and space is at a premium , the examination officer suggested that she does her GCSEs in the gym with the others. I am not happy with this (neither is the parent). Am I being fussy? And is it necessary to fill in extra forms and stuff for someone who has diabetes? The very high windows have no blinds and let in very little air - it has been known for students to pass out in the heat and once one of the invigilators collapsed. We now have a supply of cold water outside just in case students doing longer papers begin to flag. > > Take care > > > Gaynor> > > > From: jwwray14 at hotmail.com> > To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> > Date: Fri, 9 May 2008 20:51:24 +0000> > Subject: [senco-forum] Do you use the gym for exams ?> > > > I was wondering - I fell flat on my face yesterday - in front of 130 SATS students and 4 teachers - in the gym because I tripped over the plastic sheeting they put on to protect the gym surface.> > Battered and bruised at home today - horrid.
