Article: [senco-forum] [SENco-forum] differentiation

First you have to define 'differentiation'?

There is a site here that pops up on Google to help you decide what you are
trying to describe:

http://www.greenfield.durham.sch.uk/differentiation.htm

One mans meat is another man's poison is apt.

Something as simple as 'which font?' has been contentiously debated before.
As a dyslexia tutor I advocated Ariel/Comic Sans in 12/14point as this is
what my children and other students age 7-10 found useful. However 2 of mine
adapted to using Times new roman & now use this by choice!

They had colour overlays and could change ICT colour options to something
that suits them. I am typing this in blue but you should see it in black or
your set colour. Again now they are older they use black on white. So the
differentiation needs have changed.

Time is a differentiation issue i.e. what you can reasonably expect each
individual to produce in 20 minutes. This is not only governed by any SEN
issues, but pure writing speed. I work with children with bottom 10% of
writing speed who would qualify for 25% of additional time in exams - so
logically they will need it for any set writing task.

It is like the question 'how long is a piece of string?' where the answer
should be 'as long as you need it to be!'.

Sadly we all cobble bits of string together in order to make do and mend,
paying lip service to an area that requires an enormous amount of thought,
flexibility and ingenuity.

Subject: [senco-forum] differentiation

Hi
I am a new subscriber to the forum. Old senco in large comprehensive, just
beginning to realise the advantages of IT! I have to give a talk on
differentiation and am looking for sites that give examplars of
diffferentiated sheets/lessons across a variety of subjects. Any ideas?
Thanks
Fiona
