Hi, I have been asked by our ICT coordinator to reply to these posts regarding WWS wordlists on servers. We wanted to have pupil and staff photos come up in WWS and store them on a server so that it was easily updatable. As you have realized WWS is a bit picky on where wordlists and photos are stored. Therefore I store the photos of pupils and staff and the relevant wordlist on a network server these then download to a pc to the relevant locations where WWS likes to find them every time WWS is run via a simple vbs script. So that all I have to do is change the photos and wordlist on the server and it then ripples down to the local pcs in class rooms. It does mean putting the vbs script on the local pcs but once this is done everything is automatic. You do have to be careful with permissions especially with windows XP and make sure your WWS install locations are identical throughout the school (you can use the default one). All the staff do is run the vbs script (which is disguised as a shortcut to WWS2000), it deletes the old photos and wordlist on the pc, downloads the updated photos and the updated wordlist from the server, and then it run WWS 2000. It only takes a few seconds on our network and we have about 300 photos. I'd advise making sure the file sizes are small though ~20-30KB (fine for WWS) as staff get frustrated waiting for the files to download. Hope this helps.
