Article: [senit] Flash - Giving disadvantaged people fun and self-esteem.

Greetings to all of you. Rather a grand title!

I've been out action from teaching with Flash for a few years as you
will have noticed as I haven't been extolling the benefits of Flash 4
during that time. (Some of you I know have been very supportive of my
work with Flash 4.)

Well I'm back and am looking for anyone who could help get a 'pilot'
project off the ground, with me working from the comfort of my own
home! See below.

My ultimate aim is to provide free long-term training to those who
will in turn teach others in many subjects using Flash 4 templates
which can provide amazing motivation.

(And I've just bought myself an impressive new iMac to help me do the
job - that , my friends, my pottery, my garden and the Lake District
Hills keep me inspired - yes alright for some.)

To be specific I want to put disadvantaged people in touch with
others that can give them 'hope' and 'fun'.

Thinking of people that have been helped people to find a roof over
their head and are receiving the basic necessities , I imagine they
would appreciate being put in touch with someone with a sense of
humour and a un-patronising approach to sharing knowledge.(I have
also worked with two schools with special needs pupils, both in
Redbridge where I used to be)

I am such a person as I teach Flash the software that as they say
"Puts life into the Web". - Flash 4.

I do this absolutely for free see below. I can also supply all the
materials required for free.

What they will need is access to a computer, a phone nearby and a
willingness to give time and try - nothing else. Clearly they must
want to have a go and may need support to give encouragement.

I have done this type of teaching many times and do it because I find
it immensely rewarding. ( I am now retired with no need of much of an
income). I am offering a long term commitment not only to teach the
basics but to support others in the long term (years).

I have learnt to adapt my teaching to the level required by the student.

I am looking to establish a pilot program which could be monitored
for success with a view to persuading others to be taught to be
teachers of Flash. This is not as daunting a task as it might seem as
Flash 4 is a really fun 'Rolls Royce' piece of software and yes it
really IS available!

Because this project is conducted over the phone it can take place
anywhere in the world- we adjust our times accordingly. We can
probably find a way by which the phone calls can be kept inexpensive.

Can you conceive of any avenues to explore with this pilot project?
First come first served - I like other humans have limited resources
both mental and physical!

Thanks for giving the time to read thus far.

Please forward this email to anyone who might be interested.

Geoff Dellow is resuming his work in supporting the use of Flash with
students that would benefit. Flash 4 is the best version for this
use and is still available from him both PC and Mac - if you have
computers without Flash 4 then I can now send you the free 90 day
trial in ten minutes (broadband) or by CD so that you can do a
project. Previous work is described at http://www.tygh.co.uk/students
and recent work is being put

If you are a teacher and are sure that you want to put the effort
into learning Flash 4, or would like additional support, so as to use
it with your students then Geoff Dellow will teach you, one to one ,
over the phone, with a very successful technique for free. Everything
included. You pay for the phone calls!

A Guardian article described my previous work - "Digital
philanthropy" at
http://education.guardian.co.uk/itforschools/story/0,5500,383440,00.html
- note wrong email address for me!

Required - commitment to do five lessons of about 90 mins or
equivalent together with some homework, over a period of one month or
less. Times and lengths to be chatted about to find a fun time
together. Must understand English though Geoff will have a shot at
French if requested. Any part of the world, 'rich' or 'poor' - we'll
find a time when we're both awake!

Fiona has just finished five such 'lessons' within three weeks and
designed her own project which resulted in
http://www.multimediastory.org/janice.htm - pretty amazing stuff (she
is - we are!).

First come, first served - we'll see how we go! - Geoff

- email me to enquire and convince me you mean business, as above.
