Article: [senit] Asus Mini Books

Those of us who are Clicker Centres had a preview last week - it is a
really exciting concept, incorporating Wordbar and prediction and can be
used at home or school- it looks as if it will be really useful in
secondary schools and a transition tool from y6 -7 - if you are at BETT
or the SEN Fringe you will be able to get to grips with it
Cheers
Judith

Ian

I've tried to find info on Write online on the Crick Website but
there's nothing there - I did find some mentions on the Gaurdian website
that seem quite complimentary.

Have you had a chance to look at it? or has anyone else?

  Barry

Crick Software which is a web based word processor with prediction,
wordbars, speech and runs on the Asus mini book.

I have only had a very quick look but I was impressed by the apparent
build quality and variety of ports including 3 USB2, monitor, and
network plus wireless [although I'm not sure of the speed etc]. The
screen is clear although, not surprisingly given its small size, text
etc is quite small.

It certainly would make me think about buying a Neo again although the
Asus does have a lot more distractions.

I've been looking at the RM/Asus mini book. Has anyone used it. I was
thinking about using it with KS3 struggling/disaffected writers. They
look pretty cool and would have some street cred.

Is it right that you can't load any software on? I think something like
a prediction package (Cowriter/Penfriend) would be useful. Is it
possible to do this? What about battery life and the small screen?

Any advice appreciated.

Barry.
