You can get round this by having a transparent cell overlaid on top of another cell if you are really desperate to have more than one symbol / picture in a cell. Claire Barnes Willow Dene School P.S. Thanks Kevin for this handy tip (and all the others) yesterday. -----Original Message----- From: Mitchell, Dave (ChS, LBSS) [mailto:dmitchell at worcestershire.gov.uk] Sent: 01 February 2007 12:15 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: RE: [senit] RE: auditing staff skills in Clicker, WWS,Powerpoint Kevin many thanks am I correct in assuming C5 only alows one image per cell (therefore one symbol per cell) any comment on the quality of WLS symbols (emf) displayed in the cells and in clicker writer? dave mitchell -----Original Message----- From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk]On Behalf Of Kevin Lynch Sent: 01 February 2007 12:05 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: RE: [senit] RE: auditing staff skills in Clicker, WWS,Powerpoint The Widgit symbols can be registered as a library (as can PCS, folders of photographs and any other collections of graphics). For each activity, you can chose the libraries you wish to have active and the order in which Clicker 5 will search them. Any cell can be set to take predictions from Penfriend. The function is set up by going to the Cell Properties Dialog. In the text area of the Appearance tab type {prediction[0]}, {prediction[1]}, etc. The number determines the order in which the cells take the words from Penfriend. Version 5.2 comes with three ready-made Pop-up keyboards. These have QWERTY, alphabetical and high-frequency layouts. Picking up on Craig's point about MFL, another new feature for v5.2 is the ability to translate a picture library into another language. You do NOT have to copy the whole library and then rename the pictures. A language can be set for the library and the appropriate name added. This means that when grid set has English as the library, typing "cat" will produce a picture. When the language is set to French typing "chat" will produce the same picture. Sent: 01 February 2007 11:25 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senit] RE: auditing staff skills in Clicker, WWS,Powerpoint I have been following the discussion regarding staff skills with a great deal of interest, particularly the Clicker training ideas. As some of you will know the release of Clicker 5.2. and Penfriend XL version 3, extends the features of Clicker, particularly in terms of predictive on-screen keyboards and prediction with switch access. Combined with a topic lexicon created in Penfriend and used in conjunction with Clicker's picture library, for example, a symbol library, you have a very useful tool to suit a range of learners of different abilities. For instance Clicker can display an image or a symbol alongside the predicted word. Type an 'h' and Clicker can display a house alongside the prediction It is also possible to copy and paste 'prediction' cells from the onscreen keyboard into the grid section. Rather than having static cells, Penfriend will provide 'dynamic' cells that change depending oh what is being typed (similar to the onscreen keyboard but within a grid set). It works particularly well with foreign languages when using grid sets such as days of the week, months of the year. Another feature is to create Close Procedures in the document part of Clicker by using the 'pen or highlighting' tool to create spaces in sentences. Used in conjunction with a topic lexicon, Penfriend will predict words relevant to the Close task - simply click in the highlighted (close) area and select a word from the cell to complete the task. Over the next couple of days I will have a short tutorial and some example grids that can be downloaded from the website.
