Article: [senit] Typing tutor software for the blind?

I teach touch typing to visually impaired children, all using two hands to keyboard efficiently. However, I have also been involved with a program to introduce one handed touch typing to children (although not visually impaired).

We have used the IOTA touch-typing software and created exercises based around the 'fghj' as home keys. Bump-ons are required to ensure accurate placing of the fingers and the student needs to realise that their hands will glide around the keyboard rather than stretching from the one location BUT that they will always return to the home keys position. Additionally, due to the stress placed on the hand it is essential to provide warm-up exercises and warm-down exercises preventing RSI problems in the future.

This process may take some time to learn for a blind student but I am sure would be successful.
