Hi, This is more than a little harsh! The accessibility functionality planned for iplayer is cutting edge to say the least - it's Apple's DRM that prevents support natively. You can read more about the accessibility plans here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/access20/2006/10/not_just_subtitles_bbc_iplayer.s html The BBC Trust provisional conclusions last month included the requirement on the BBC to develop its own DRM framework thus getting round Apple's restrictions and a substanital opposition to DRM within the OSS community - how this development will be funded of course is an interesting problem in the current climate. You can read more here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/news/press-releases/31-01-2007.html Simon -----Original Message----- From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of webmaster at aylesburyvale-sec.bucks.sch.uk Sent: 19 February 2007 15:05 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senit] BBC plan to prevent access to disabled computer users The BBC are planning to make their planned TV on demand / internet TV services only available to users of Microsoft Windows (XP or higher) computers. This will exclude the many, many disabled people who use more SEN friendly platforms such as the Apple Mac. There is a public consultation which can be used to ask the BBC to make sure its services are available to everyone and not just to customers of The Microsoft Corporation. Please also forward this message to other forums and people concerned with equal access for all. The public consultation is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consult/openconsultations/ondemand_services.ht ... If the link is broken then it may need cutting an pasting into you browsers address bar. (Or on a Mac highlight it, right click and select 'go to address') Mark |
